An example of a visual programming environment, Pablo allows you to create a program by connecting graphical elements. The execution of the program is then animated using the same visual language and structure used to construct the program. While Pablo is a particularly attractive example, visual programming environments (e.g. MaxMSP) have been around for years. Why haven't they been adopted for large programs? Are there techniques that could help them be more modular and scalable?
